Models: Vlada Roslyakova

Vlada Roslyakova was born in 1990 in Tomsk, Russia, and began modeling as a teenager after being discovered at a local casting. Her sharp features, high cheekbones, and ethereal presence immediately set her apart. Vogue Paris called her one of the top models of the 2000s decade and one of the most influential Russian models of all time. Vlada would work locally before her rapid rise to fame in 2004. By her mid-teens, she was walking for major designers in Paris, Milan, and New York, quickly becoming one of the most recognizable faces of the 2005-2010 era. Her rise was almost too fast for a teenager entering an industry that prized perfection above all else.

Since the beginning, Vlada’s beauty was both a gift and a trap. Backstage, she was praised for her “otherworldly” look but was often described as cold or distant. In reality, Vlada was exhausted and overwhelmed, navigating castings, runways, and photoshoots while trying to meet impossible expectations. Her perceived coldness was not a personality trait, but a form of survival.

During her career, Vlada worked for numerous luxury fashion brands, including Alexander McQueen, Blumarine, Burberry Prorsum, Miu Miu, Givenchy, Gucci, Roberto Cavalli, Chanel, Chloé, Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Calvin Klein, Céline, and many many others.

The modeling world rewarded obedience and shrinking bodies. Vlada faced constant scrutiny, expected to be smaller with each season. Many often referred to her as a “sad beauty,” a description that reflected less who she was and more the emotional toll of relentless work, travel, and deprivation. Even at the peak of her fame, she was treated more like a product than a person: a fragile doll to be displayed.

Today, Vlada Roslyakova is remembered as one of the defining faces of her era. Her career stands as a testament to her resilience and lasting influence, reminding us that behind every iconic image is a real person who helped shape the visual language of modern fashion.
